Hayden, a fourth-grade student at Liberty Arts Academy in Mesa, has a deep appreciation for toys and games, as do most children his age.
But unlike other elementary-age kids, Hayden has turned his personal interest into a public service movement, by creating a summer toy drive to help children languishing in hospitals over the holidays.
“Hayden’s Summer Toy Drive” will be featured as part of the “Children’s Health and Wellness Carnival,” slated from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Liberty Arts Academy, 3015 S. Power Road, in Mesa.
Guests can gain entrance to the carnival by providing a toy for the drive, or a donation. Toys will go to children in local hospitals during the holidays. Hayden’s goal is to ensure that no child goes without a present this season. He calls it “Christmas in July.”
Liberty Arts Academy, a sister school to Desert Hills High serving children in grades K-8, is seeking sponsors for the event. Those interested should contact School Leader Cheri Wasiel at 480-830-3444.
